Hands of Hope International
Health & Nutrition
Nav List
Did you know that Guatemala currently ranks 5th highest in the world for chronic malnutrition?
For thousands of children, this devastating reality goes far beyond daily hunger. A lack of consistent nutrition and clean water severely limits physical growth, hinders cognitive development, and strips away long-term opportunities. Without intervention, children are left highly vulnerable to preventable diseases and long-term health complications.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
THE SOLUTION:
Holistic Care & Prevention
Our goal is not simply to hand out food, it’s to strengthen families, equip communities, and create sustainable pathways out of poverty. We believe every child deserves the chance to grow, learn, and thrive. Here is how we are actively combating the health crisis on the ground:
-

Consistent Meals
Weekly Feeding Program
Nutrition is foundational to a child's future. Through our weekly feeding program, we serve over 250 elementary students across two partner schools. Providing these consistent, nutritious meals not only supports healthy physical development but also significantly improves classroom focus and attendance.
-

Daily Vitamins
Vitamin Distribution
To combat chronic nutrient deficiencies, we partner with local schools to provide daily vitamins and nutritional supplements for every child. This ensures students receive essential nutrients throughout the entire week, strengthening their immune systems in communities where quality nutrition is scarce.
-

10-Year Water Filters
Water Filter Systems
Access to clean drinking water is extremely limited in many rural areas of Guatemala, and contaminated water leads to ongoing sickness and preventable disease. For just $45, we can install a water filter that lasts up to 10 years. By providing these systems, we are keeping kids safe from waterborne illnesses and bringing reliable, clean drinking water directly into their homes.
-

High-Quality Medical Care
Medical Clinics
We organize multiple medical mission trips each year, bringing in teams of volunteer medical professionals. These clinics provide compassionate, high-quality care to address urgent medical needs while reinforcing our commitment to holistic community health.
-

Preventative Education
Health Education Workshops
We host specialized workshops for parents, educators, and local emergency personnel to teach disease prevention, basic healthcare, and nutrition, multiplying our impact far beyond the classroom
