Hands of Hope International
The Hunt Family
Hello and welcome! We’re so grateful you’re here.
For more than five years, our family has had the privilege of serving full-time as missionaries in Guatemala. Looking back, we can confidently say this: trusting God’s direction is not always easy but He has never once failed us. Time and time again, we have experienced His faithfulness firsthand.
Our Journey
Erik’s heart for missions began in 1999 on his first mission trip to Costa Rica, a life-changing experience that marked him deeply and planted a calling that would unfold over the next two decades.
Likewise, Amanda has always carried a deep compassion for those in need. Whether feeding the homeless or offering mentorship, guidance, and encouragement, she faithfully invests in others with a servant’s heart and a desire to see lives strengthened and restored.
In 2007, while serving faithfully in our local church, we began sensing that God was preparing us for something more. After relocating to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we were invited to join our home church staff full-time. Over the next 15+ years, we served in Student Ministry, Administration, Missions, Children’s Ministry, College Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Sports Outreach, and more. Each season was preparation for the mission field.
In 2016, God led us to Guatemala for the first time. We served at a children’s home caring for abused and abandoned children while also conducting outreach in surrounding communities, providing food, clean water, essential resources, and sharing the Gospel. During that trip, we knew international missions would one day become our full-time calling.
After returning again in 2019, that calling became clear. We stepped out in faith, transitioned from church ministry in the United States, and moved our family to Guatemala. Hands of Hope International, a vision God placed on our hearts in 2018, became the foundation for the ministry we now lead.
Serving Through Generations
One of the greatest blessings of this journey has been serving together as a family. Our children, Ellie and JohnPaul, graduated high school while living on the mission field and played a vital role in helping build what is now our Internship Program. Through their leadership and involvement, they helped create opportunities for other young adults to experience hands-on ministry and discipleship in Guatemala.
Today, both are attending college while continuing to support and champion the mission. Watching them grow into leaders with hearts for the Lord has been one of the greatest confirmations of God’s faithfulness in this calling.
Amanda, an educator for over 20 years, continues to use her passion for teaching within our ministry. The years of homeschooling allowed our family to live, work, and serve side by side, a gift we will always treasure.
Our Mission is Simple
To offer the hope that only comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Through child sponsorship, biblical education in schools, discipleship training for churches, construction projects, health and nutrition programs, and hosting mission teams, everything we do is centered on sharing the Gospel and strengthening communities both physically and spiritually.
