Beyond the classroom, we host pop-up Vacation Bible School (VBS) events throughout Santo Domingo Xenacoj, San Bartolome, and San Mateo. These high-energy events create a fun, safe environment for children to encounter Jesus.

Why it Matters
Religion alone does not equal biblical literacy.
In many communities, faith is shaped by tradition and law rather than understanding. Without access to steady teaching, Scripture remains distant, even when belief is present.
We Teach God’s Word
Biblical literacy in Guatemala is not a given.
While religion is deeply woven into the culture, access to consistent, age-appropriate teaching that builds true understanding of Scripture is limited. Many children and adults grow up familiar with religious practice, but without the tools to read, understand, and engage with the Bible for themselves.
This is where our work begins.

How We Educate
Biblical education for children happens weekly in classroom settings designed for each age group, from kindergarten through high school.
This is far more than memorization or rule-following, We empower communities to understand Scripture in a way that grows with them.
Team Effort
We are better together! With collaboration and a joint goal we teach biblical literacy to all ages. Our Guatemalan team helps to guide and support the teaching, while mission teams serve alongside them through facilitation, translation, and classroom support.
This partnership allows teaching to remain consistent, culturally aware, and relational.
Commitment
This work is not seasonal or short term. We commit weekly to building a steady foundation of understanding over time.
By focusing on biblical literacy, Hands of Hope helps children, adults, and communities engage Scripture clearly and faithfully, supporting long-term growth rooted in understanding rather than obligation..
